Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia - a rare finding in the orbital region.

چکیده
Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia is a benign lesion of vascular origin. It is caused by excessive proliferation of endothelial cells in vascular malformations or normal blood vessels. We report the case of a 58-year-old woman sent to our clinic for surgery of an orbital fat prolapse at her right eye. The clinical examination showed a displacable swelling with a slightly livid aspect approximately 2 cm in diameter under the upper orbital rim. After MRI, a biopsy was carried out leading to the histological diagnosis of intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia. The complete excision of the remaining tumor was performed 8 weeks later. We discuss this clinical entity and the management of such lesions in the orbital region.

Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia of the orbit.
Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia is a rare vascular benign tumour bearing some similarities to malignant angiosarcoma. The case reported here in a 20-year-old girl is of particular interest because the orbital tumour, despite its entirely benign nature, invaded the temporal fossa through the lateral bone of the orbit.

In 1923 Masson described a neo-plastic process consisting of papillary hyperplasia of the vascular endothelial cells, with a consequent obliteration of the vascular lumen, followed by degenerative changes. He introduced the term ‘vegetant intravascular hemangioendothelioma’. However, these days it is more commonly known as papillary endothelial hyperplasia (PEH) [1]. Although relatively rare, t...

INTRODUCTION Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia is a reactive proliferative lesion of endothelial cells in blood vessels. It typically presents as a painless, reddish purple lesion in the sites affected. The orbit remains an uncommon site of affectation of this relatively common disease. It is noteworthy that this is the first reported case, to the best of our knowledge, of orbital...

Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia (IPEH) is an uncommon benign vascular disease characterized by endothelial cell proliferation and papillary formation within the lumen of blood vessels arising from an organizing thrombus. The occurrence of this uncommon lesion is about 2% of all vascular tumors. IPEH mostly occurs in the 5th decade of life, and there is no gender or age predilect...

Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia or Masson's tumor is a rare reactive disease of vascular origin characterized by exuberant proliferation of endothelial cells notably occurring within blood vessels of head, neck, and extremities. The importance of this entity is its ability to mimic a variety of diseases both benign and malignant in the orofacial region. Here, we present a case o...
